Faber is a character who I saw as very intelligent and wise. He was a gingerly old man who had been around awhile and knew how the world used to be before all the extreme censorship and false happiness. He knew about the time of learning and prosper and books. Although he feels that it's not the physical component of books that is important but rather what's inside, "It's not books you need, it's some of the things that were once in books." (82) And Faber does not just specifically single out books as important either because both books and media had the potential to become storage units for information, "The same things could be in the 'parlor families' today. The same infinite detail and awareness could be projected through the radios and televisors, but are not." (82) Unfortunately media had never fully developed as much as books did to store the information so books became to primary source of storage, "Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget." (82-83)
Faber then goes on into explaining what he sees as the reason for the importance of books, "Number One: Do you know books such as this are so important? Because they have quality."(83) A new component that was part of the three pieces of a society prospering that were truly missing; "Number one, as I said: quality of information. Number two: leisure to digest it. And number three : the right to carry out actions based on what we learn from the interaction of the first two." (84) Now, "what does the word quality mean?" (83) Quality to me means best or reliable, when I go shopping I look for the best quality of product available and I do this because the product with the best quality is seen as reliable and better. But quality to Faber meant something a bit more specific and interesting, "To me it means texture." (83) Texture? Like the touchy feely stuff? A cat is soft and fluffy, while a lizard is dry and rigid. Exactly! Books have texture, "This book has pores. It has features. This book can go under the microscope. You'd find life under the glass, streaming past in infinite profusion. The more pores, the more truthfully recorded details of life per square inch you can get on a sheet of paper, the more literary you are. That's my definition, anyway." (83) Books have life; like a character through the use of adjectives and literary devices we build a person that resembles an idea and gives us this sense of life. Books have the ability to do that, give life, that is why Faber also touches on the fact that the best authors the legendary writers are the ones' that bring books to life, "Telling detail. Fresh detail. The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her for the flies." (83)
Books are important and Faber realizes that he sees the real importance and has deeply analyzed the reasons for the great importance of these books. And I completely agree with Faber's analysis and explanation of the importance of books and the true meaning of quality.
But while thinking about it, I thought, books really do have great power! Books can give us emotions and informations to take action. So if the society wanted happiness so badly then why did they take away the one thing that could give them such a thing. If you want something so badly, such as happiness, then isn't the small bumps in the road, like being offended or wrong, just a price to pay for beautiful literature?

TU Tuesday - Local
http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Mistakes-advances-in-New-York-s-hospitals-6650
The best hospitals are
known for their god-like care and flawless procedures. These hospitals do not disappoint
but yet exceed patients and relatives expectations. So we all then have
expectations set that hospitals, all hospitals, are safe, reliable, and the
greatest place to be in a detrimental event. But is that really the case? We
through the media, past experiences, and common knowledge have been given this
mistaken idea that every hospital is the safest place to be, but should we be
having this much trust for every hospital we visit?
"In one case, a
middle-aged man with cancer had a complex surgery that involved his pancreas,
gallbladder and stomach. A retractor, a metal instrument used to hold organs in
place or keep a wound open during surgery, was unknowingly left behind in the
abdomen, said Louis Filhour,
a registered nurse who is senior vice president for clinical quality at
Albany Med." Many cases like this one have been seen throughout New
York State in many of the hospitals that we trust, "Both Albany Med and Nassau
University made the Watch List for the second year in
a row." The point of the article isn't to plant a spirit of mistrust
within citizens but rather an understanding that some hospitals are of a lesser
value of service, "The two institutions were among the 26 hospitals whose
below-average safety performance earned them a place on the Watch List in the
second annual patient safety analysis conducted by Niagara Health Quality
Coalition for Hearst Newspapers."
Although these
particular hospitals within the region have performed poorly in safety, there
are many hospitals that have been giving us the best care since they started
performing surgeries on patients, "In the Capital Region, St. Peter's
Hospital was named an Honor Roll hospital,
one of 20 hospitals whose patients had fewer complications, injuries and
infections among the 246 New York hospitals in the analysis."
It
is also essential for readers' to know that impossible events happen and we
should plan for them, "Retained foreign objects remained a problem, even
though it is considered a "never-event" -- a type of incident that
should never happen. There were 84 cases statewide of foreign objects left
behind after surgery, only four fewer than the previous year. While some were
innocent events, like a broken tip of a catheter that is easily retrieved,
others were much more serious." The article reminds us to remain wary
of the hospitals and health care we are receiving and to always get check-ups
so we never fall behind with our health.

Do you think Memorial Day is about remembering deaths or celebrating live?
I think that memorial day is a mixture of both and the celebration that tastes place is important and unique. We use memorial day as a time to remember those who have been scarred or were victims of war. We also celebrate life because we know and appreciate that we were granted the gift of life from these people who have risked their own t o protect ours. We remember, mourn, and embrace on memorial day.

What is Crippling Us?
The points that were made within both texts were the facts that lead to an interpretation that states the government and policies they provide us with are all leading the population towards conforming and uniformity.
With the Gatto piece he's predicting the future and the effects our actions will most likely have on society if this keeps going, "The integrating function. This might well be called "the conformity function," because its intention is to make children as alike as possible. People who conform are predictable, and this is of great use to those who wish to harness and manipulate a large labor force." Basically within society we are already seeing it, everyone is trying to make themselves like the perceive image of perfection. We get these perceptions from media and our social interactions, which for the children is school the place that we spend a majority of our childhood at. The schools then rate us on our potential when we first enter the program. They do not see us as individuals but rather workers, and they do not look towards the future but rather towards this instant so no scholar is ever able to be great or see what they could become if they at first are not the greatest, "The selective function. This refers not to human choice at all but to Darwin's theory of natural selection as applied to what he called "the favored races." In short, the idea is to help things along by consciously attempting to improve the breeding stock. Schools are meant to tag the unfit - with poor grades, remedial placement, and other punishments - clearly enough that their peers will accept them as inferior and effectively bar them from the reproductive sweepstakes. That's what all those little humiliations from first grade onward were intended to do: wash the dirt down the drain."
Within Fahrenheit 451, Raybury makes the same points that all lead to conforming as a society and uniformity. The only difference is within the story the society has already reached the point of no return that we seem to dread. But what is so remarkable about this story is the fact that it was not published recently but rather in 1953! Raybury had to foretell the circumstances that our society would be experiencing today and then infer even farther into the future. His story is the basis of what we worry about today. "Impatience. Highways full of crowds going somewhere, somewhere, somewhere, nowhere. The gasoline refugee. Towns turn into motels, people in nomadic surges from place to place, following the moon tides, living tonight in the room where you slept this noon and I the night before" (57), this is all things we see today! We all move so fast not paying attention, real close attention to what is smack dab in front of our noses. We have become so dependent on technology as well that we don't think anymore we have become so dependent on a machine to so basically all the tough thinking our brain needs to remain healthy and on the ball. Its sad but the lack of thinking and individuality is exactly what the government and school systems need to create labors or even mindless robots, "More sports for everyone, group spirit, fun, and you don't have to think, eh? Organize and organize and superorganize super-super sports. More cartoons in books. More pictures. The mind drinks less and less" (57)
I was persuaded by both pieces of work, they held back no punches and were not afraid to say what others can't. We need to change or what tis foreseen in Fahrenheit 451 will happen to use as well and I'm not so sire we will be able to recover.

Tried and True
My Father: David Tennant
I would choose to have my father as David Tennant because he has all the characteristics that I stride to have. Tennant is Sympathetic, Gorgeous, Talented, Hilarious, Sure of himself, Intelligent, Fashionable, Open-minded, Determined, Athletic, Inspired, Modest, Confident, Genuine, and just a well rounded amazing human being. I could learn so much from him and inherit so much from him. Strictly looking at personality he is one of a kind and genuinely is motivated by his inspiration to reach goals and dreams that he sets for himself. Also being scottish (but does amazing american and british accents), having amazing hair, super thin, and being 6'1'' are all just bonuses. Plus he doesn't drink, so I know to the best of my knowledge, and I cannot stand drinkers or addicts of any kind. Drives me mad, so that is a trait that I would not enjoy seeing in my father so I am glas he is not much of a drinker.
My Mother: Adele Laurie Blue Adkins
I would choose to have Adele as my mother because to me she symbolizes a trooper, she has been through a lot and all of it is reflected through her heart-felt music. Like Tennant she is well-known and wildly talented. Oh and foreign, as a born and bred Brit. The only down fall is she smokes, and so I have heard, had to get surgery because of her habits. But if I were her daughter and Tennant her husband I'm sure her stories wouldn't be so harsh -maybe even love stories- and she wouldn't smoke.

TU Tuesday - Commencement Speech
Steve Jobs was a
highly successful "American businessman,
designer and inventor" and "he is best known as the co-founder,
chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc." Steve Jobs has had many lasting impacts
on society through his character and renovating technology. Steve Jobs
"was widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer
revolution and for his influential career in the
computer and consumer electronics fields."
He was a great man and it was a tradgedy to loose him on "October 5,
2001".
Before he passed
"Steve Jobs delivered [an inspirational speech] to Stanford University's
class of 2005." Within his speech he reflects on three stories from his
own life. His first story, chronologically, starts from the beginning of his
life, "It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young,
unwed graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt
very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was
all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife." He
basically states that his mother did not want him for herself because she was
uneducated and wouldn't have been able to provide for her son the way that
another erudite set of parents would. I agree with Jobs in saying that yes
having a well functioning and financially stable family does have its perks and
would help with giving the child the opportunities generally needed to succeed.
But right before he explain his situation he states, "I dropped out of
Reed College after the first six months, but then stayed around as a drop-in
for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why'd I drop out?"
Basically blaming his situation on the reason for him "dropping out".
I do not agree with that. Although like I stated before having a well financed
and intelligent family helps, its not all that is needed. Many highly
successful people have risen from the slums and changed the world, while many
wealthy people have sat around and rotted in their drunken corpses not making
one positive change to the world. With all that money you would assume they
would have some decency to spend it on a good cause or maybe go to school and
learn a few things so they can become a scholar and change the world that way
rather than flaunting their money around and say "here". But beside
the point, we cannot choose the cards we are dealt but we can choose what
we do with them. And I was kind of disappointed at the way he started off his
speech not taking responsibility or humbly stating what he had accomplished. It
seemed to me like he was even disappointed in a way of what he has done. He is
a great man and he didn't need a fancy family to get him to where he was, and
he should have said that- in a most modest way possible.
He then continues,
"Except that when I popped out, they decided at the last minute that they
really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in
the middle of the night asking: We've got an unexpected baby boy. Do you want
him? They said: Of course. My biological mother found out later that my mother
had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from
high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a
few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college. This was
the start in my life." his biological parents were promised that their son
would find his way to college, he did at 17 leaving to start another chapter of
his life. But he didn't use the opportunities he was given in a sense , he left
all the things he was given- college- behind and went on to do his own thing.
Of course it worked for him...but what if it hadn't? Would he have been paying
for a mistake? Or what if he had stayed throughout all of college? Would he
have been more successful? Less successful? We can never know. Buit what we do
know is Steve Jobs was given a crappy group of cards, but he was special enough
to turn them in to something magnificent. And I was very happy to see that he
reflected on his luck and opportunity for the passion he had found when
partnering with a college in the Apple corp, "My second story is about
love and loss. I was lucky, I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I
started Apple in my parents' garage when I was 20."
Quote I loved:
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition."

50 Friends I Cant Wait to Meet
I CANNOT WAIT to meet my Camp Scully friends. Camp Scully is the camp that I have been going to since I was just seven years old. The friends I made well our relationships were unbreakable and we were able to hangout and chat outside of camp, it was nice knowing we could still be friends even when the summers ended. And the counselors I had always looked up to in awe, I was always so grateful to have these amazing, hilarious, and talented people present in my life even for just a couple of weeks a year. And it was one of my childhood dreams to be able to work as a counselor for this great camp. But this year I was worried that because of my age I would not be eligible to work as a counselor -or any other job- at camp, the minimum age that one needs to be to even be looked at as a possible candidate for camp is 17 years of age. But like I said I have been going to this camp since I was seven so the camp director Colin knows me well and has watched me grow up literally. Knowing that I was too young to work at the camp I signed up for my second year of the LIT, leaders in training, program and volunteer for the extra four out of seven that I would not already be at the camp for. But Colin, when I was volunteering at the Spring Camp, pulled me aside and decided to talk to me about my options for this summer. He basically told me that because of my age I could not work there at all and he would love for me come as an LIT and maybe take over for someone who leaves or quits. I was stoked and impassioned with excitement! So I went home from volunteering and did not have any thoughts of even becoming a counselor, but long story short, Colin called me one day and said it would be foolish to not have me as a welcomed member of his staff this year. I was even more excitement- if possible- than before. I got off the phone with him and immediately started filling out my application. Colin made my childhood dream come true, and I am so excited to meet all the fellow staff members who most of them are past camp friends. It will be a whole new experience working with them 24/7 for 9 weeks and I couldn't be happier. As I have been saying since I got offered the job, THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST SUMMER EVER! 2012 WHOO!

Love to Know Slideshow
There is a wall. A wall that had been built by our minds to protect us; our physical and psychological aspects. We bottle everything up and leave it inside and not taken care of. But after awhile, after all the pain and hardships of life, we are forced to break. Our wall falls and tumbles down to the ground. Some problems become insuperable and leave us with so answers or solutions. We are stuck. All alone. Then the rage begins to build and our only intentions are to break free and scream to let out the little monsters of anger and rage that are trapped within our bodies. We wanted happiness and we stride for happiness, but what do we do when we cannot get it? When there is nothing left to do but lay there. On the cold hard non-comforting ground and wale -not weep or cry, but wale. Hmmm. But should we give up? Should we stop trying? For every day inventors and scholars are making discoveries and advances in education, the sciences, and the arts. Nothing is ever set in stone, so why should we act like it is? Nothing is forever and that goes for both the good or the bad. We are human beings and although we may break down or give up sometimes, I know that our race is strong and we always can get back up and keep going.

Communism
Communism is a derivative of Marxism. An economic (and partly political) ideology founded by Karl Marx. The ideology stated that, in theory, everyone would be treated equally in every way. Money, possessions, and benefits were all shared for the great good of the community over the individual. This ideology was based on a theory that the gap between the bourgeoisie and proletariats was widening and because of the mistreatment put upon the proletariats from the bourgeoisie there would in the near future be a revolt. But in reality communism was nothing short of a totalitarian system. One ruler rose above all and was a controller of the people. Communism was tested in Germany, Korea, and China. China today still uses communism.
I disagree. Honestly, how do you expect men o work when they are not given full freedom? We obviously need rules so society does not run amuck and turn chaotic but really, dictating? That's not right. I'm not just saying that it is wrong because I live in a first world country and enjoy my freedoms, but because without capitalism then the people have no motivation to work. Why work when I can do nothing and get the same amount of pay as the next guy who is busting his back? Soon the economy of China will fall because of the lack of motivation and freedom. Stick to Capitalism!

http://timesunion.kaango.com/ad-summer-enrichment-programs-at-affordable-prices/20457560
Attaturk then realized how he could help his people, education! "Intensive Enrichment Programs" were what was needed. He wanted his people to learn these new ways and bring them with them to a new and better life. The mobile classes -mobile to work with the nomads- would be given "Monday- Thursday" and would be taught by professionals. With the little contact to the outside world they had Attaturk was able to communicate with some foundations and gather up some money donated from an organization, "JEI", to help his cause. JEI agreed with Attaturk and felt that his people should be introduced to the modern world because they never knew what great things these people could offer the world, and with such curiosity Attaturk and JEI were not going to just sit around to wait and see if greatness would sprout because they were going to grow it. JEI and Attaturk were planning to train greatness into the nomadic peoples of the sahara desert.
JEI partnered with Attaturk and formulated a plan, both believed that "Math- Problem Solving" and "English- Reading & Writing" were needed to train a bright and well- rounded individual.
At the death of Attaturk on April 6th, 2012 one great scholar rose, Leonardo. Leonardo would bring the people to the new world and achieve Attaturk's biggest wish, greatness.
NOTE: THIS STORY IS FICTION
Attaturk's Legacy
Deep in the sahara desert lives a small group of nomadic people. Moving constantly to keep up with the times and replace materials needed for the journeys. Attaturk is the leader of these people. Having such a small group has many advantages, for example, more attention is payed to each individual making sure that they are receiving the greatest life possible while living in the group. Attaturk, although he deeply loves his people, knows that living a nomadic lifestyle is difficult and can take it toll on each individual -the hot sun, back breaking work, lack of modernization, and constantly moving- that's why Attaturk wanted to have his people live on. He wanted his people to westernize, to live in the modern world, and aspire to be great rather than aspiring to survive in the sahara desert.Attaturk then realized how he could help his people, education! B= Banana Bread
http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/banana_bread/
- 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed- The warm summer mornings spent with my mother and the pancakes she would make. Blueberry, chocolate, and sometimes even banana.
- 1/3 cup melted butter- The smell of sweet melted butter. Spread upon my french toast that was just readily made by my grandmother. The weeks that we would spend over at their home over the summer, by the pool reading magazines and swimming. It was endless fun.
- 1 cup sugar- Reminds me of the lack of acrid. Everything was peaceful and filling and sweet like candy. The summers were bright and calm and relaxed. It s what every kid looks forward to...no wonder whyh I have already started counting down the days til summer.
- 1 egg, beaten- The hard-boiled eggs we would make every year around the time of easter. So man y colors put upon the egg.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla- Summer afternoons spent at corner ice cream or the cone zone. The whole immediate family just eating our favorite flavors of ice cream and enjoys every bite.
- 1 teaspoon baking soda- The healthful moment when I decided to not drink soda anymore, which was about 2 years ago. Not a drop, and I remember when my cousin used to flaunt that she has seen the deleterious effects of soda and stopped drinking it a long time ago.
- Pinch of salt- I remember how happy I would get tasting the salt on my yummy french fries at the softball fields, Keenholts, where I would play.
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour- Represents the soft smiles that would shine as the sun radiated upon each of my siblings and my faces. Giving us each a small tint of red. We had known summer had begun and school was out and the next two months and all the days that were entitled with them were all left to us and required no work, just fun and relaxation.

Famous Poem Starters
But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep
It has been my duty to serve to great lands of Sparta. Since I was just a young boy, not a day older than 7 I'd say. I was fighting and training to become the ultimate killing machine. Learning the phalanx, how to use the weapons, how to defend my self, and survive in the wild. I had to leave my family, a wife and a young son, to fight against the Persians. The nasty Persians, deciding to attack our neighboring states in Greece, specifically Athens. Athens was to our enemy, with there democracy and lack of military power, but we had to join forces to defeat the Mutual enemy. The walk was long and rough but we are warriors, we either win the battle or die trying with honor. A messenger came, before I was set to leave Sparta and fight, and told us of Xerxes evil plans to attack. Not many supplies were brought for the travel, and starvation and thirst began to become a problem. We took small detour and lost our way multiple times making it difficult to reach our destination in the estimated time. I was hurting myself but remembered what I was taught, "Never be a coward! Keep going!" my mentor would always yell. As I looked and saw my moaning counterparts I encouraged them and warned them of the consequences if we do not fight our hardest. When we reached the tight space between to huge rocks I was ready and anxious to go in. I knew that this is where it's all going to happen! This is where Sparta in an alliance with Athens would both defeat the Persians! Walking into the battle grounds I was a bit cocky, all of us were, especially after the lingering hunger had vanished after we finished the meal we had saved for before battle. I was caught off guard then by the hundreds of thousands of Persians, all lined up and approaching...fast! As a warrior I was ashamed at the fear that had taken over my body, but also relieved by the adrenaline taking its course. We remained still in the phalanx, waiting for the Persians to try and penetrate our defenses. They did. Few soldiers that survived the persian attack against the phalanx creeped up behind their troops and attack the disorganized bunch. It was a mess. Too many Persians to count. What were we doing? Fighting for those...Athenians. We've hated them all along, why help now? And just then I looked to my immediate left. And saw nothing but the bright radiant sunlight bouncing off of the blade. And I tasted nothing but metal, cold silver, and the sweet taste of blood...my blood. They had slashed me, the Persians, and within a few minutes a was just a lost soldier honorably forgotten on the battle field. Walking into the battleground, I didn't know then that the battle was a suicide mission...for all.

Nursery Rhymes ARE Relevant to Life
Eencey Weencey spider
Climed up the water spout;
Down came the rain
And washed poor Eencey out;
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain;
And the Eencey Weencey spider
Climbed up the spout again.
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~pfa/dreamhouse/nursery/rhymes/eencey.html
This poem relates to my life today and how I try my best to never give up, stay determined, and stick with things instead of leave them. The spider fell- which could be seen as a failure- and in my eyes I imagine the spider was determined to reach the top.

Turn your Inkblot into a Butterfly
With nothing but ignorant bliss
feasting for pleasure
cares blown away
by gentle slow winds
paths leading us astray
chaotic turns with no direction
no sense of time or place
just withering away
till the day
it disappears
But then
change
A growth becoming
off the little bit of pleasure feasted upon
wisdom has been sacrificed once
but is now restored
the control and power
systematic and stationary
rational and ready
aware and thriving
It is complete
compatible and unique
this unprecedented creature
comes out to share
the ways of beauty
change, wisdom, sacrifice
this creature moves with the wind
not against it
this creature has become something unique
beautiful, contemporary, perfect

Article: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Will-hockey-be-tail-that-wags-Union-brand-3460264.php
McGuire is a writer for the Times Union and has been writing for awhile, "After more than four years as a sports columnist, Mark McGuire has moved on back to the news side to write about cultural issues. " He enjoys sports, "Even though he sat in the press box or at courtside, McGuire remained a fan at heart", I can assume that I why he was a sport journalist for more than four years. Not from the region, " the transplanted Long Islander", who "came here 21 years ago, expecting to stay a couple dozen months" has found himself in a bit of a sticky situation. "Two houses, two kids and one wife later, [McGuire] thinks the Capital Region is one of the best places anywhere to live and raise a family." So he now resides in the upstate capitol region. In the article "Will Hockey Be a Tail that Wags Union Brand?", by McGuire, is about the "tiny Union College, the one the national media consistently tags with (N.Y.) after its name to locate the school and differentiate it from the seven other institutions of higher learning with "Union" in its name, earned its first berth in the Frozen Four — Division I hockey's equivalent of the Final Four." McGuire wrote about the sprt hockey because it interests him and he has an opinion on the topic. Before making his assumption he gives fact from past occurrences at other colleges, "Siena after the Loudonville college made three straight NCAA men's basketball tournaments from 2008-10. Applications more than doubled compared to five years earlier, and donations to the athletics fund rose more than $200,000, to $469,000." Then he follows the facts with his general statement, The link between the basketball team's success and the increased interest and generosity seems clear." Then McGuire discusses the advantage of having a hockey program, "the advantage of having the hockey program when a student is contemplating Union or a much larger school. There is also the additional edge for a student who would like to root for a big-time program but also play collegiately themselves, something a broader range of athletes are able to do on the Division III level." Overall McGuire is a wonderful wrtiter for both the news and sports headlines and the Union College was lucky to have a hockey program that placed highly in their division.

High school...
FUN! There is so much to do in high school. Clubs, musicals, sports, classes, etc. There is so much to learn and so much room to grow. I like high school! I feel it is a breeze personally and I am so excited for college in two years, to take everything to the next level and begin my life. I have done so much in high school and working myself til there is nothing left but drowsy eyes and great grades. I have worked so hard and I want everything to pay off and I want to be successful and the best I can be. In high school I have tried to be the bets I can be and make the best out of everything. Every activity, every relationship, every learning experience. I have learned so much in just my first two years in high school, and I'm very excited for the years to come. High school to me is FUN and an important experience and adventure in my everyday life.

A= Athos
"Enjoy the flavors of the Mediterranean"
Athos, known for having classic Greek cuisine, and has a fairly diverse menu. With choices for people who live with vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free diets. I thought that was nice, so people who having restrictions on what they eat can enjoy the classic and savory tastes from Greece. The appetizer and the salad were $12 each, and living on a budget, I felt that was a bit pricy. Although the appetizers were very good, the flat bread was fresh and light, and the dips/spreads were tastefully spiced and seasoned.
"Greek cuisine is extremely diverse in its ingredients, seasonings and flavors. The mixture of Turkish, Balkan, and Venetian influences all come together in Greek cuisine. At Athos, we have created a menu featuring classic Greek dishes. Chef Harry, who has been featured in Gourmet magazine, and whose restaurant (Ithaka) in Manhattan has received an excellent rating with Zagats, uses recipes passed down from generations of Greek cooks and bakers."
The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was elegant, quiet, peaceful, and classy. It sort of surprised me that even with the plethora of people in the room it still felt non-chaotic or load. The restaurant is also known for having a family- friendly atmosphere. Although both the service and food quality can suffer with such a great amount of people, but the restaurant seemed to know how to handle a large rush well.
Within the proximity is a few other restaurants, like Inferno Pizzaria, not many unique attractions/ sites are located near Athos. That may be a weak point, but really if you are going out to dinner what else are you going to do. Just eat, then go home.
Overall the restaurant is great and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a nice classy place with tasty and fresh food.

The Book that Changed My Life
Unwind
"In a society where unwanted teens are salvaged for their body parts, three runaways fight the system that would "unwind" them Connor's parents want to be rid of him because he's a troublemaker. Risa has no parents and is being unwound to cut orphanage costs. Lev's unwinding has been planned since his birth, as part of his family's strict religion. Brought together by chance, and kept together by desperation, these three unlikely companions make a harrowing cross-country journey, knowing their lives hang in the balance. If they can survive until their eighteenth birthday, they can't be harmed -- but when every piece of them, from their hands to their hearts, are wanted by a world gone mad, eighteen seems far, far away.

If they can survive until their eighteenth birthday, they can't be harmed -- but when every piece of them, from their hands to their hearts, are wanted by a world gone mad, eighteen seems far, far away.
In Unwind, Boston Globe/Horn Book Award winner Neal Shusterman challenges readers' ideas about life -- not just where life begins, and where it ends, but what it truly means to be alive."
As a child book I didn't read books much or enough. Books were not in abundance in our home and it was not encouraged to read- it wasn't looked down upon either, my parents just weren't pushy. They were young parents and didn't see the importance of reading in a child, growing to an intelligent adults, life. So with that said, I am not entirely used to reading or fond of it. But as I am getting older I am enjoying literature much more. But when I was younger it was really hard to come across a good book. I wouldn't stick with the book unless I enjoyed it. Unwind changed everything and I am so grateful that Ms. Zisa had the book lying on her desk during advisory so I could ask if she was reading it, she said say no, and I would pick it up and start reading it.
Unwind is by far my favorite book and has been for awhile. I read this book when I was a freshmen and it opened my eyes. Personally I was at first attracted to the cover, it looks great, then through reading the story became so real that I couldn't keep from reading on. The book maybe think about life in a whole new way, because in the story each individual between the ages of 13-18 doesn't have a choice to live, that choice is decided by a parent or guardian. That is a lot of power to have as a parent or guardian, a child -who may I say is going through puberty at the time and is overemotional and moody- may, no will, get into a fight. Fighting between parents and teens is inevitable. So one fight and the child is gone? Without a trace? His/ her body parts used for someone else. But did they ever think that the most influential people as children were not seen as "useful" and they were seen as "problematic" they were different and were not afraid to challenge old ideas. So society would not move forward without these essential individuals.
In the book there are three main characters; Connor, Risa, and Lev. Connor was my favorite -fearless, smart, and charismatic with a great dose of sarcasm. I rooted for him and Risa to be together, it just seemed right. Risa the uptight orphan girl who had so much to offer the world but without any parents was seen as not needed, and Conner who was just Connor. It seemed almost fact that they wouldn't or shouldn't be together. But in the end they got together, and that made a special fan of the book a very happy camper.
PS: I think I may have to read this book again soon by MAKING time for it. I am so emotionally attached to this book it is unreal. I love it!

Bucket List
1) Meet a wonderful boy and fall in love then have a family- I have always wanted a romantic and fairy tale love, and with my love I would want to build a happy, loving, and successful family. The family that I wish I had growing up.
2) Have an extremely successful medical career- I have worked so hard in everything I do to try and be the best. I am hardworking and determined. All of this work had to have been for something, and I feel that in the end my determination and hard work will get me an amazing career in medicine. That is what I have been working for all my life so far, I want a prestigious award or a change in medical history so bad. I want to make a mark and save many lives.
3) Travel- anywhere, everywhere- Specifically Europe, Ireland, Africa, and Canada! I have never traveled outside of the United States, not even the east side I have only been to Florida. That is the farthest I have gone and I feel deprived. I want to see what the world has to offer, not just what the little town of Guilderland has to offer.
4) Bungee Jump!- I don't really know why, maybe the adrenaline rush or the wind literally blasting through my hair and face. I want to feel this experience that everyone is raving about.
5) Write a book- I have so much to say. Words that to me seem important. I think differently than everyone else. I can tell, I just know I do. Things are not processed the same way as others. So to be able to share the way I think in some way, and to finally be understood on some level, well that my friend...that is a gift. If the book isn't published I would at least like it to be passed down within my family so my great great great great great grandkids can have something to read from their great great great great great grandma.
6) See a change in the world- I want to see something change; people become less greedy, Global Warming end, architecture and agriculture flourish, technology expand dramatically. I don't exactly know but I wish to see some kind of positive change.
7) Act, Sing, and Dance- I have always loved acting, singing, and dancing. I love medicine as well, I mean it is the more realistic career path. But if I could choose I would love to sing, dance, and act. So I want to perform somewhere, anywhere outside of high school. I want to participate in some big production and not loose the hobby that I love the most.
8) Rock Climb/ Mountain climb- again another adrenaline rush. I really want to travel see the world and do things that not everyone had a chance to do. I want to rock climb on a mountain side (with other supervision of coarse, and safely)
9) Become a great cook- I cannot cook nor do I really care what the food takes like. I just eat it. But I feel that if I became a better cook I would be able to appreciate the savory tastes in some delicacies.
10) Be genuinely happy- Seems difficult, but I know that if I keep doing what I love and working hard. Then there is no way I will not be happy.

The Language of Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nSAwgCoy2s
I have the joy of seeing you everyday. That face, that hair, those eyes. For weeks, months even, I stayed quiet. Away from your glance, embarrassed that you would not like what you would see. Embarrassed that I may crack under the pressure and my nerves, and my first impression would end up being my last. "Hi" you'd say. Shocked and confused, I froze. My body numb and my brain not functioning at all. No words and no graceful moments ran through me. The pressure and nerves got to me, but eventually I was able to push the word, H-Hello, out of my nervously sewn shut lips. His smile shook every single dynamic bone in my body, and my heart raced at a thousand beats per minute. If I could get my neck to even move the slightest to look down at my chest, I could swear I would be able to see the outline of the excited heart that normally beats calmly in my chest cavity.
"We should hang out? Ya know together, see a movie or something." No way. He asked me...to...no way. Now I had lost it, every single blood vessel incased under my fair skin rushed, giving me the warmest and rosiest cheeks I had ever felt. Those words that had left his mouth were sweeter then any ripe melon I could have ever tasted. His words were not at all fake like those rocks hanging off a woman's neck, but rather real and sincere. I felt his love coursing through his veins, out through his speech, and right into my ready -but shaking with nerves- ears. He was real, the feeling was real, and this moment was real.
"Y-Yes!" I said excitedly, "Of coarse."

TU Tuesday - CRIME
Are there laws against hacking? If so how can hacking be prevented?
In the times union article, "[Clive] Goodman arrested along with private investigator Glenn Mulcaire for suspected hacking into voicemails of royal officials.” Their punishments were said to be; “Goodman jailed for four months; Mulcaire given six-month sentence.” Laws have been made, “In the early 1980s law enforcement agencies faced the dawn of the computer
age with growing concern about the lack of criminal laws available to fight
emerging computer crimes.” As well as “Congress included in the Comprehensive Crime Control Act
of 1984 provisions to address the unauthorized access and use of computers and
computer networks.”
The penalties for computer crimes are as follows:
Table 1. Summary of CFAA Penalties
Offense Section Sentence*
Obtaining National Security Information (a)(1) 10 (20) years
Accessing a Computer and Obtaining Information (a)(2) 1 or 5 (10)
Trespassing in a Government Computer (a)(3) 1 (10)
Accessing a Computer to Defraud & Obtain Value (a)(4) 5 (10)

The prevention of phone hacking is not attainable but there are ways of reducing your chancing of being hacked, “Eliminating phone hacking is impossible, but you can reduce chances of ever being phone hacked by observice a few rules:
1. Prevent phone hacking through Passwords
Here are some password tips to reduce chances of being phone hacked:
1. Turn on password protection for your voice mail.
2. Never use the same password for more than one account.
3. Change your phone's default passwords.
4. Avoid passwords that are easy to guess e.g: your birth year (Can easily be found on your Facebook page).
5. Change your system passwords on a regular basis.
2. Never use the same password for more than one account.
3. Change your phone's default passwords.
4. Avoid passwords that are easy to guess e.g: your birth year (Can easily be found on your Facebook page).
5. Change your system passwords on a regular basis.
2. Switch off your phone
This is not the most popular option, but if you don't need to be reachable at all the times, consider this option.
3. Keep your phone updated
New phone hack prevention mechanism are released now and then as phone companies try to keep up with phone hack prevention. Its a good idea to keep your phone updated.
4. Phone security
Safeguard the physical location of your phone and related computer equipment. Consider anti-theft software like this one http://www.pctipstricks.net/hacking/free-download-anti-theft-software-mobile-phones/. With this software you can do the following:
1.Remotely lock your phone by sending sms
2.Remotely format/wipe your phone by sending sms
3.You will get the location and information of the new sim inserted in the phone.
So it can help you recover your mobile phone which has been stolen or lost accidently.
So it can help you recover your mobile phone which has been stolen or lost accidently.
5. Turn off Bluetooth
Most phone hacking is done via bluetooth .Turn off bluetooth service when not using it.
6. Turn off voice mail service running on your provider
Some providers allow access to your voice mail without requiring a password provided that the calling number (Caller ID) is actually yours. This is usually to make their service easier to use for the intended persons. A hacker can spoof your number and call the voice mail number on your provider and operate your voice mail as though it was his own without the need to even know your password! Call your provider and either ask them to require authentication regardless of the caller ID.
Spoofing your number is easy. There are a dozen websites that offer the service at a small fee.”

Creative Contest II Blog
Once upon a time there lived a boy named George Smith. He was always treated poorly by the other children in his school, they called him called Box Boy. Not much was out of the ordinary for George except the whole square-shaped-head-while-everyone-else-has-a-circular-head thing. George didn't do much either, except he knew he was slighty different from the others. And the other kids yelling "Hey Box Boy!" wasn't helping the poor boys case either. Every day life to him became less and less exciting, less and less worth waiting for, and less and less worth living for. His personality gradually changed to someone that he didn't like, someone more quiet, more reserved, and more different. He began to hate what he had become. So he worked hard to get back the old George. It took a bit, but eventually he was back; happier and more proud of himself and his differences than ever. He strutted every day to that school, and down the streets, with pride radiating from his square head. "Im square and Im proud, Im square and Im proud", and eventually everyone else caught onto George's pride and uniqueness as well and stopped calling him Box Boy but rather they started embracing him as George Smith.
BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!!!!
